Question
Assalaamu alaykum Scholars. May Allaah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, his pure Family, his Companions, and everybody who follows them in righteousness and goodness. I have a question regarding my mother, who does not want me to buy books related to Islam. She says that in these times, in which terror is widespread, I should wait with buying Islamic books. She is afraid that I get problems and that the police will check everything because I buy Islamic books. So now she does not allow me to buy books. That disturbs me a lot, and I feel like a part of me has died. I have told her that I read the books written by well known scholars like Fawzan, Bin Baz, Uhtaymeen, Ibn Taymiyyah and the likes. I hate the Khawaarij and their methodology. I love the muslims leaders and am against revolution, like Shaykh Barbahaari in his Sharh As-Sunnah. However, she screams and becomes angry. I do actually understand her point, but the argument that we should wait does not make sense, since the evil Khawaarij will always be there. So if we would wait, then that would last till the last day of life on earth. I believe that if you are innocent, then you have nothing to fear. If you do not do evil, then why be afraid. What do you - great scholars - recommend me to do? I really love knowledge. I really like the scholars. I feel that they are my friends who advise me when I am reading their books. I feel like Ibn Taymiyyah when they took his paper and pen from him in the prison. May Allaah bless you all and give you Jannah Al-Firdaws. I am 24 years old and live with my parents.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
May Allah make you ever keener on doing good deeds and earnestly seeking after it. You should continue to discuss the matter with your mother in a gentle and compassionate way and clarify your point of view and explain that these books do not pose any danger to you, Allah willing. If she insisted on her opinion, then we advise you to stop buying the books that your mother fears may put you in danger and substitute them with other means of learning, which are many, such as listening to useful tapes and online lectures and reading fatwas and useful books that are abundantly available on the internet. You can also go to public libraries and read therein whatever you like until Allah guides your mother to allow you to buy whatever books you wish.
