Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Our advice to you is to not give your child a compound name but to name him Yusuf or ‘Abdur-Rahmaan, or any other good name. There is no doubt that the name ‘Abdur-Rahmaan is better because the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The most beloved names to Allah are ‘Abdullah and ‘Abdur-Rahmaan.” [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi]

A Muslim should not be named “Yusuf Rahmaan” because this implies that “Rahmaan” is an attribute of Yusuf, and it is known that Ar-Rahmaan is a name and attribute that is exclusive to Allah, The Exalted, as stated by the scholars.
